Relocating from Hong Kong for months at a time, the client wanted to “live in the woods” in a home expressive of their contemporary sensibilities and environmental chic.

On a remote parcel nestled amongst trees, with extraordinary views, integrating solar orientation, views of Mt. Yotei, and the intimate qualities of the pine and birch groves were site-planning determinants. Within the compound each building element is positioned for a direct connection to the undisturbed natural environment external to the compound.

Primary materials include cultured stone complementing natural Hokkaido cedar, rough hewn solid-oak flooring, a natural wood burning fireplace, alder millwork and 100% wool carpets. The materials all come together to create a stunningly beautiful home in a quiet and natural setting.
