Yamabiko confronts the predicament of living on an edge. It takes advantage of the prospect afforded by a steep site while at the same time strengthening the fragile slope, reducing the amount of water that threatens to destabilize it and minimizing the energy required to do so.

The building design responds to the exigencies of the site and takes into consideration snow management, local flora and captures the long views as well as the glade intimacy of the adjacent landscape.
